Edmonton-born SUSAN GILMOUR is a singer-actress of international standing, having starred on Broadway, in Los Angeles, across the US and Canada, and around the world.
Beginning with her own bands, she performed in musical styles, from jazz to rock to country with equal success. She performed for Canada's Peace Keeping Forces in the Middle East, has sung on countless album projects and radio jingles, and has been featured on many television specials including 3 seasons on the CTV series Sun Country with Ian Tyson and as a special guest, along with Ofra Harnoy and Loreena McKennitt on the Gemini award winning CBC television special Michael Burgess Live at Massey Hall.
Wanting to expand her career, Susan began her training with Edmonton Musical Theatre. From there it was on to New York City and a scholarship for 2 years of intensive study at the American Musical and Dramatic Academy. Upon graduation, she returned to Canada to play the role of Miss Stacy in Charlottetown's own Anne of Green Gables, and Aldonza/Dulcinea in Man of LaMancha starring with Brent Carver at the Neptune Theatre in Halifax.
Susan then won the role of Fantine in Les Misérables where she performed in Toronto at the Royal Alexandra Theatre for 2 1/2 years, and on the 1st National Tour starring with Michael Burgess. She went on to perform Fantine on Broadway, in Los Angeles (where she received a Robby Award Nomination for Best Supporting Actress), and in the International Touring Company to Singapore, Hong Kong, Seoul Korea, and Cape Town South Africa. Susan then re created the role of Fantine in the 1998 production of Les Miserables at The Princess of Wales Theatre in Toronto, starring with Colm Wilkinson.
Susan Gilmour has starred in many highly acclaimed productions: Eva Peron in Evita; Aldonza Dulcinea in Man Of La Mancha; Nancy in Oliver!; The Narrator in Joseph And The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat; Reno Sweeney in Anything Goes; Sarah in Guys and Dolls; Marmee in Little Women; Lucy Lockit in The Beggar's Opera; Florence in CHESS (in Concert); Sarah in Harvest Moon Rising; Kate in Sylvia, and the roles of The Queen and Lillith in The Greatest Gift.
Susan originated the role of Dorrie in the Canadian Stage Production Larry's Party at Toronto’s St Lawrence Centre, the NAC, and MTC. She also created the title character in the Canadian Stage World Premier of PELAGIE, at the NAC in Ottawa and the St. Lawrence Centre in Toronto, (where she received a Dora Award Nomination for Best Actress).
Susan recently enjoyed 2 seasons at Stratford playing Jenny in Three Penny Opera and Mrs. Pearce in My Fair Lady, Charlotte in A Little Night Music(in concert); and The Witch in Into The Woods.
This past summer Susan originated the role of Mary MacGregor in David Warrack’s new musical ROB ROY which performed at the Edinburgh Festival in Scotland, and this Christmas was thrilled to star as Grizabella in The Theatre Aquarius production of CATS.
Susan has developed her own Lady Sings The Tunes concert/cabaret and played to sell out crowds this January, at the Theatre Aquarius Studio Space.
